Koh Chang Island, Thailand Must see.

I am an expat, working in Bangkok, Thailand. My husband and I are both huge travel fanatics who constantly went on trips when we were younger. We lived an adventurous life and we loved it. But now, since we are a bigger family with two beautiful kids, things are not as simple. We’re still constantly on a lookout for easier getaways like weekend trips, and we want to share our adventures as a family with our children.
Sometimes we do love the idea of having a romantic date to re-kindle our love life with just the two of us. But at the same time, we want to make wonderful memories with our kids as well. We love places where they can have fun and we can have a perfect date together.
Having your family with you while you are abroad making life easier, and when you’re in a country like Thailand, with so many nice places to visit and explore, that’s just an icing on the cake.

Even though some might call it a part of its charm, for me the hectic city life in Bangkok drives me crazy at times. There’re constant traffic and noise around you 24-7, and sometimes it makes you quite anxious. So, making an escape to a beautiful location around Thailand is sometimes just what we need to recharge our batteries and bring a little joy to our family.

One of these spots that we recently visited was the beautiful island Koh Chang. After asking a few of my colleagues I found out that unlike other beach towns like Hua-Hin, Pattaya and Chonburi, Koh Chang is the best option for family vacations. It’s not as touristy as the other locations and not as much of a nightlife party destination like Pattaya.

To get to Koh Chang, you can drive to Koh Chang Ferry Pier which is just a 4-hour drive from Bangkok and then you transfer to a ferry which takes approximately 20 mins. If you have kids too and desire to go on a family vacation, taking a flight to Trat province might be a more comfortable option. In our search for hotels we luckily came across Sea View Resort and Spa Koh Chang. This spectacular resort that had a great deal directly from the resort’s website: (http://bit.ly/2b8mmuU).
Sea View Resort and Spa Koh Chang was perfect for our family getaway. It had all the facilities we were looking for to enjoy our perfect weekend.

Sea View is located on a very private and peaceful spot on the island, above the island’s viewpoint. The resort is decorated in contemporary Thai style, making it a good place for to experience the authentic Thai style in décor and architecture.

Adding to a wonderful experience at the resort were the kayaks we could take from the resort to a small island that was just a mere 5 minutes away. This was easy to do and the kids loved it! During low tide, you could even walk to the small island. The water was shallow, making it safe and fun.

When we arrived at the hotel we were welcomed by a lady from the hotel who offered us refreshing herbal drinks. And they were indeed refreshing. It was made from lemongrass juice and I loved it so much that I had to ask for another one.
The aroma of the drink was very relaxing and made it a great start to our visit. As one could probably guess, the drink was not such a hit with our kid’s though, what did they prefer instead? Of course the candy! ☺

One thing that we liked about Sea View is the funicular rail, it's very useful for the elderly and for families travelling with kids like us. The resort is nestled in the rainforest habitat which gives it the best view on the island, but walking up and down the hill all the time could become less comfortable. So we took advantage of the rail that made going up and down the hill more comfortable. We have not seen many resorts like this in Thailand especially with the rail.

We were all very excited to have arrived. We were taken aback by the scenery. The water looked so inviting that we had to go straight to the beach and jump in. I had packed up some beach toys for the kids to keep them excited but they made for a wonderful family fun time together as well. We played water volleyball and built sand castles together and had an amazing time.

At times we would want to just relax, so having a variety of toys came in handy at those times. The kids would then play by themselves with the toys and let us relax and lay back with a book and a refreshing drink.

My husband and I love going away on family outings. Unlike some parents who tend to think that having kids is a deterrent to vacations, we believe that it’s the family trips that are the most satisfying and enjoyable. Creating wonderful memories together as a family is such a beautiful and gratifying experience. With a few tricks (as we did the toys ☺), I think we can easily squeeze in some “me time” when we need. So, we believe it’s just about a little bit of planning and foresight.

This way we get the best of both worlds at the same time, having a wonderful time with our family and getting some much deserved relaxing time for ourselves as well.

The pool at Sea View is huge. The resort has 2 pools. The First pool is located next to the beach.

The Clifftop pool was our favorite. This pool has a huge slide that comes from the second floor and the kids loved it. There is also plenty of areas with shade around the pool to keep the kids out of the sun and avoid sunburn.

We booked the deluxe family room. Our trip was going to be a 2-day trip, so we decided on spending a little bit more and getting a nicer room with a better view. And it was worth it. The Deluxe Family room is huge from what we could tell. It was one of the best types of rooms they had. The room has an amazing view with separate bedrooms and bathrooms. There’re a big spacious living area and a large bathroom with a bathtub where I was able to lure in my son with his favorite toy to convince him to take a bath. Haha.

After a long day of activities at the beach and the pool, we were ready to sit back and enjoy our dinner. The signature menus at Seaview are a must try. We ordered and tried several dishes. The food was truly sublime! I loved how the food was served. The pineapple with fried rice, was actually a whole pineapple with the fried rice in it, not just some fried rice with small bits of pineapple mixed through it. The kids seem to also enjoy this minor detail and were quite excited [as always] haha.

They also have their signature pizza. What was fun about ordering the pizza was that the friendly staff and chef let me and the kids watch how the pizza is made. We were allowed to witness how the chef made his signature pizza and after, the chef even gave my kids a chance to try to make their own pizzas. But as I am a worrying mother and a little protective of my kids. So they would not hurt themselves, I decided to resort to only have them add the toppings to the pizza instead Haha.

We were suggested to go to the resort’s viewpoint after dinner, the viewpoint was located at the
high point of the island and there we could see the sunset and get a 360 degrees’ view of the island. This
tower has a higher viewpoint than public viewpoints on the island and gives you a spectacular view of
the island. We sat down, relaxed and had a couple of drinks before heading back to the room.

The next morning, we were determined to go out and explore the island. We enjoyed our breakfast at the breakfast area and headed out to do the activities we booked from the resort

We went for elephant trekking, where you sit on the back of an elephant and they take you around the island.
They also allow you to bring your kids to feed the elephants.

The two days I spent with my family at the Sea View Resort Koh Chang were the best times we all had as a family in a long time. It was such a great experience and I would highly recommend anyone to visit Koh Chang and Sea View Resort for an unforgettable time. Sea View Resort was very kid friendly, the staff were polite and always helpful, the stay comfortable and the view and the beach astonishing and very safe. It was just an amazing experience and Sea View Resort played a huge part in the whole experience.

We were worried if the activities were not safe for our kids. But even the activities that might not seem like the safest ones for young kids, like kayaking and the elephant trekking, they were safe and turned out to be great fun. The staffs were there the whole time and they made sure that our kids would not fall into the water or from the elephant. I’d say that this simple effort from their part made us far more comfortable at the resort and on the island. Allowing my husband and me to relax as well and come back to Bangkok, fresh and recharged. It’s these small things that make all the difference and knowing this makes me want to come back to Sea view on my next trip to the island.
